No documented origin or inventor can be found for the Muskrat Emerger. It belongs to the modern family of subtly tied emerger patterns and uses grey muskrat dubbing (or a suitable imitation) - a material long valued in fly tying for its fine, natural texture.
The voluminous grey dubbing creates a realistic silhouette just under the water's surface, while the moving hackles add lively presentation. It's fished during a hatch or surface activity and is especially effective on selective trout and grayling in clear water and slow current.
