The Yellow Drake imitates Ephemera varia, a large North American mayfly species with a pale yellow body and cream, faintly yellow-tinged wings. Unlike many other large mayflies, its hatch often stretches over several weeks rather than culminating in a few intense days - a nocturnal to dusk event that reliably draws large trout to the surface.
The Yellow Drake is fished dead-drift at dusk and after dark, when the naturals are hatching - a targeted imitation for hunting large trout at night on slower-flowing stretches of water.
