Pheasant Tail Steel Red

The Pheasant Tail Nymph was developed in 1958 by Frank Sawyer, a river keeper on the Hampshire Avon, and tied exclusively with fine copper wire instead of tying thread. This Steel Red variant with its bright red thorax is a later, modern addition for which no single inventor can be named anymore.

The true-to-life pheasant tail body imitates mayfly larvae, while the red hotspot thorax adds extra visibility - especially effective under heavy fishing pressure or in murky water. It's fished dead-drift and close to the bottom, a reliable pattern for trout and grayling.
