The Pheasant Tail Nymph was developed in 1958 by Frank Sawyer, a river keeper on the Hampshire Avon, and tied exclusively with fine copper wire instead of tying thread. This attractor variant with added trigger elements is a later, modern addition for which no single inventor can be named anymore.
The true-to-life pheasant tail body imitates mayfly larvae, while the added trigger elements draw attention even in murky water or under heavy fishing pressure. It's fished dead-drift and close to the bottom, a reliable pattern for trout and grayling.
