Lunns Particular

Lunn's Particular is a classic English dry fly from the River Test, developed in the spring of 1917 by William James Lunn - river keeper on the Test's Houghton water for 45 years. Originally tied to imitate the Large Dark Olive, it owes its name to an anecdote: after a poor day's fishing, a guest complained the trout were "too particular", so Lunn handed him his new pattern - which promptly caught three fish.

Lunn's Particular is still regarded as one of the most reliable flies for English chalk streams and works both floating and lightly sunk - classically fished dead-drift during an olive hatch, but also a proven choice for wary, already-pricked fish.
