The Paradun combines the parachute-hackle tying technique with the flat, realistic wing shape of Comparadun flies. The parachute technique itself traces back to Scottish fly tyer Helen Todd, who in the 1920s developed the idea of a horizontally wound hackle - her employer Alexander Martin patented a hook with a metal post for it in 1931. The Paradun itself is a later development with no single documented inventor, combining the strengths of both techniques. This light olive variant covers correspondingly colored mayfly species.
The flush-sitting parachute hackle provides realistic support in the surface film while the body sits true to life within it - a convincing imitation for selective trout on calm, clear water.
