Description

The Griffith's Gnat is a minimalist American dry fly that imitates clustering midges on the water's surface - just peacock herl body and a palmered grizzly hackle, nothing more. As the story goes, it emerged in the 1940s on Michigan's Au Sable River around George Griffith, one of the founding members of Trout Unlimited; whether he tied the fly himself or it was simply named after him is still debated. This Hi-Vis version adds a bright, visible post to the original for easier tracking in difficult light.

The Griffith's Gnat is classically fished on calm, flat water when trout and grayling are keying in on small midge clusters - ideal as a subtle imitation for stillwater and spring-creek fishing with very wary fish.

Fair Trade, Full Circle

Your flies are tied fairly, with the best materials, on a barbless hook. "Fliegenfischen mit Herz" is building a base for women in Nairobi. The women there own and run the tying workshop themselves, giving them economic independence, pride in their craft, and joy in their customers. Let's work together toward a more balanced world.
