It belongs to the Minimal Pattern series of sparsely dressed nymphs that use a reduced amount of material to give a general impression of several insect groups. This cased variant, with its suggested case, imitates a caddis larva in its protective shelter.
The slim, compact body looks natural despite its simple construction. Tied barbless, it's fished deep and works as a reliable general-purpose nymph for trout and grayling.
