Waterhen Bloa Ribbed

The Waterhen Bloa is one of the best-known North Country spider patterns, with roots reaching back over 200 years - it appears under other names as early as 1807, and was finally documented in 1885 in T. E. Pritt's "North Country Flies". The name "Bloa" is northern English dialect for the slate-blue-grey color of the waterhen feather used, and the body is traditionally dubbed from yellow silk with water-vole fur. This version adds extra ribbing for more contrast and segmentation.

Pritt himself called the Waterhen Bloa indispensable in March and April and a reliable grayling fly throughout the winter - it's classically fished wet across the current.
