No documented origin or inventor can be found for the Last Emerger. It belongs to the modern family of emerger patterns that recreate a mayfly's final emergence stage - the moment just before the insect fully breaks free of its nymphal shuck and becomes a fully formed fly.
With its yellow-green body and natural-colored CDC wings, it sits flush in the surface film for a realistic presentation. It's fished dead-drift in slow current and is especially effective on clear rivers with selective trout that key in on transitional stages.
