Montana Green Nymph

The Montana Nymph was developed by American professional fly tyer Lew Oatman of Shushan, New York, to imitate large, dark stonefly nymphs. Oatman, who died in 1958, is considered a pioneer of "exact imitation" in American fly tying. In the mid-1950s he brought the pattern to Britain, where professional fly dresser Peter Deane took it up, and it remains one of the well-known nymph patterns to this day.

With its bold green body and pronounced thorax, the Montana Green Nymph imitates large stonefly nymphs that live on the riverbed. It's fished close to the bottom and dead-drift, a proven choice for trout especially in fast-flowing, rocky stretches of river.
