Black Spider

The Black Spider belongs to the time-honored family of North Country spider patterns from the Yorkshire Dales, which emerged in the early 19th century and became widely known through T. E. Pritt's 1885 book "Yorkshire Trout Flies". Its plain black hackle follows the minimalist construction of this pattern family, for which no single inventor can be named anymore.

With its slim silhouette, the Black Spider imitates a range of dark aquatic insects, especially in low light or low water. It's fished classically wet and is a proven choice for wary trout and grayling in clear rivers.
