Description

Greenwell's Spider is the soft-hackled sister pattern to the famous Greenwell's Glory, which James Wright devised in 1854 for Canon William Greenwell on the Scottish River Tweed - after Greenwell observed a heavy hatch of pale mayflies that none of his flies could match. Tied as a wingless "soft hackle", it belongs to the tradition of North Country spider patterns.

Greenwell's Spider is classically fished wet, across the current, with a natural drift, to imitate hatching or drowned mayflies (olives) - a reliable choice for trout and grayling for over 150 years.

Fair Trade, Full Circle

Your flies are tied fairly, with the best materials, on a barbless hook. "Fliegenfischen mit Herz" is building a base for women in Nairobi. The women there own and run the tying workshop themselves, giving them economic independence, pride in their craft, and joy in their customers. Let's work together toward a more balanced world.
