Pheasant Tail Dry Fly

The Pheasant Tail Dry Fly traces back to Englishman Payne Collier, who in 1895 was the first to tie a pattern with a body of wrapped pheasant-tail fibers - to this day the defining feature of every Pheasant Tail fly. Frank Sawyer's Pheasant Tail Nymph (1958) later became far more famous, but the original dry-fly version, with its slim, segmented pheasant-tail body, remains a classic in its own right.

With its natural brown tone, the Pheasant Tail Dry Fly imitates a wide range of pale to medium-brown mayfly species and is fished dead-drift during the corresponding hatch - a slim, understated all-rounder for calmer river and stream stretches.
