Gold Head Pheasant Tail

The Pheasant Tail Nymph was developed in 1958 by Frank Sawyer, river keeper on the Hampshire Avon, and tied entirely with fine copper wire instead of tying silk. This gold-head variant is a later addition to the pattern.

The gold bead makes it sink faster, and it's fished just above the riverbed - exactly where Sawyer believed most feeding took place. Tied barbless, it's a traditional, reliable pattern for trout and grayling.
