Sawyer's Grey Goose Nymph

The Grey Goose Nymph is one of three fly patterns Frank Sawyer, river keeper on the Hampshire Avon, presented in his 1958 book. It's tied the same way as the Pheasant Tail Nymph, but with pale grey goose feather fibres instead of pheasant, to imitate lighter mayfly species like the pale watery or spurwing.
The stripped-down, almost minimalist pattern looks alive rather than tied, and is fished upstream, close to the riverbed, just like the Pheasant Tail Nymph. Tied barbless, it's a proven choice in clear, calm water for wary trout.
