Sulphur Dun

The Sulphur Dun stands in the tradition of the thorax tying technique developed by Vince Marinaro, which he introduced in his influential 1950 book "A Modern Dry-Fly Code". Marinaro placed particular emphasis on recreating the wing's shape, breadth, and flatness, convinced that the wing is the decisive feature a trout recognizes when looking up through the surface "window". The term "sulphur" for the corresponding pale-yellow mayfly species is largely traced back to Marinaro's book.

The Sulphur Dun is fished dead-drift during the sulphur hatch in late spring and early summer - its flush-sitting wing silhouette makes it a convincing imitation especially for selective trout on calm, clear water.
