Green Drake Beaded

The name Green Drake refers to the large mayflies of the genus Ephemera (including Ephemera danica and Ephemera vulgata), whose nymphs spend one to three years developing in the riverbed before hatching. No documented origin or inventor can be traced for the fly pattern itself.

Just before and during the hatch, this nymph imitation is the ideal fly, since the rising nymphs are then especially exposed and easy prey. Tied barbless, it's fished deep or just under the surface.
