CDC Spider

No specific inventor or documented history can be found for the CDC Spider. Its minimalist build takes its cue from the traditional North Country spider patterns but replaces the classic hen hackle with the much lighter CDC feathers (cul de canard), which have been used in fly tying since the 1920s in the Swiss and French Jura.

Its feather-light build gives it an especially soft presentation on the water, ideal for gin-clear streams and calm conditions. With its green body and translucent hackling, it imitates small mayflies or midges and is fished dead-drift for demanding sight fishing on wary trout.
