Description

The Fur Ant Black is a classic ant imitation - two balls of fur dubbing separated by a short hackle, recreating the pinched, waisted body of an ant. The Fur Ant has no single inventor; ant patterns are among the oldest dry flies of all, and Charles Cotton already gave dressings for the "Ant Fly" in 1676. Black is the universal ant colour.

Ants drift on the surface throughout the summer, at times in huge numbers during the nuptial flight - on medium and larger rivers trout will then often take them selectively, usually in the afternoon. Drowned ants show a characteristic dumbbell shape, which this pattern picks up. The Fur Ant Black is tied barbless and fished in or just under the surface film on a free drift; the soft fur soaks through and lets it sit realistically low in the film. The dark colour also helps over a dark bottom or in poor light.

Fair Trade, Full Circle

Your flies are tied fairly, with the best materials. "Fliegenfischen mit Herz" is building a base for women in Nairobi. The women there own and run the tying workshop themselves, giving them economic independence, pride in their craft, and joy in their customers. Let's work together toward a more balanced world.
