Greenwell's Glory Without Wings is the wingless, pure-hackle variant of the fly James Wright devised in 1854 for Canon William Greenwell on the Scottish River Tweed - one of the most famous British dry flies for imitating pale mayflies (olives). Without the elaborately tied wings, this version sits even flatter on the surface and is quicker to tie.
Like the original, the wingless version is fished dead-drift during an olive hatch on calmer river and stream stretches - its reduced silhouette sits especially true to life in the surface film.
