Description

"Diptera" doesn't refer to a single historical pattern in fly tying - it's simply the insect order of true flies (Diptera), covering midges, gnats and related small two-winged insects that often end up in the drift in large numbers during the warmer months. This black version is a simple, compact imitation of one of those small dark flying insects.

Small Diptera often drift in high density on calmer stretches and stillwaters, where trout and grayling pick them off selectively from the film. The Diptera is fished dead-drift right in or just under the surface film, and in small sizes also works as a trailer behind a larger dry fly or on a fine leader in calm water. It is tied barbless.

Fair Trade, Full Circle

Your flies are tied fairly, with the best materials. "Fliegenfischen mit Herz" is building a base for women in Nairobi. The women there own and run the tying workshop themselves, giving them economic independence, pride in their craft, and joy in their customers. Let's work together toward a more balanced world.
