Beacon Beige

The Beacon Beige was developed in 1917 by a certain Captain Wills, a member of the Bristol tobacco-merchant family, on the River Exe near Dulverton in Devon - named after the nearby hill Culmstock Beacon. It derives from an older pattern called "Beige" and was later popularized above all by professional fly dresser Peter Deane. To this day it's regarded in Devon as a respected grayling pattern.

Its understated, pale coloring makes the Beacon Beige a reliable choice on clear chalk-stream and river stretches during light insect activity and with selective fish. It's fished classically dead-drift and shows its strengths above all with grayling, but also with trout on calmer stretches.
