Description

The X-Caddis was developed in the late 1980s by Jackie Mathews, wife of well-known Yellowstone angler Craig Mathews, and published together with John Juracek in the influential book "Fishing Yellowstone Hatches". The trigger was an observation many fly fishers share: during heavy caddis hatches, trout refused classic, fully emerged adult imitations - they were keying in specifically on flies still stuck in their pupal shuck. The X-Caddis imitates exactly that moment of emergence.

The X-Caddis is fished dead-drift during a caddis hatch, when trout are feeding selectively on struggling emergers - an essential fallback when classic caddisfly imitations are being refused.

Fair Trade, Full Circle

Your flies are tied fairly, with the best materials, on a barbless hook. "Fliegenfischen mit Herz" is building a base for women in Nairobi. The women there own and run the tying workshop themselves, giving them economic independence, pride in their craft, and joy in their customers. Let's work together toward a more balanced world.
