Description

The Prince Nymph traces back to the Brown Forked Tail, tied by brothers Don and Dick Olson of Bemidji, Minnesota. Doug Prince of Oakland, California, modified the pattern in the 1930s, switching the body from ostrich herl to peacock herl and curving the white wings downward. When fly-shop owner Buz Buszek added the pattern to his mail-order catalog in the 1940s, he couldn't recall its original name and simply called it the Prince Nymph.

The addition of a brass or tungsten bead has made the Prince Nymph even more popular in recent decades. It's fished dead-drift or with a light strip retrieve underwater and is a versatile attractor pattern for trout and grayling in both river and stillwater.

Fair Trade, Full Circle

Your flies are tied fairly, with the best materials, on a barbless hook. "Fliegenfischen mit Herz" is building a base for women in Nairobi. The women there own and run the tying workshop themselves, giving them economic independence, pride in their craft, and joy in their customers. Let's work together toward a more balanced world.
