Description

The Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear is among the oldest British fly patterns, its wet-fly form reaching back to the 15th century. Who exactly created the nymph version can no longer be established with certainty - both James Ogden and Frederick M. Halford, the "father of dry-fly fishing", are frequently credited. The modern gold-ribbed nymph spread from the 1880s onward and became a fixture of American fly fishing in the 20th century.

With its shaggy body of hare's-ear dubbing, the Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear imitates a broad range of aquatic insects - from mayfly larvae to scuds to caddis larvae. It's fished dead-drift or with a light strip retrieve and ranks among the most versatile and reliable nymph patterns there is.

Fair Trade, Full Circle

Your flies are tied fairly, with the best materials, on a barbless hook. "Fliegenfischen mit Herz" is building a base for women in Nairobi. The women there own and run the tying workshop themselves, giving them economic independence, pride in their craft, and joy in their customers. Let's work together toward a more balanced world.
