The Adams Wulff combines two American fly-tying traditions: the coloring of the classic Adams, which Leonard Halladay tied in Michigan in 1922 for his friend Charles F. Adams, with the upright, divided hair-wing construction that Lee Wulff popularized in the 1930s. Who first tied this specific combination can no longer be established with certainty - it belongs to the broad family of Wulff variants.
The bold hair wings and dense hackling give the Adams Wulff exceptional buoyancy, letting it ride safely through fast, broken current. As a versatile attractor pattern, it's fished dead-drift and is as sought-after for trout and grayling in alpine rivers as it is on calmer stretches of water.
