Rehhaar Sedge

The Rehhaar Sedge imitates caddisflies in their imaginal stage (imago = fully developed insect) and is a very simple variant of the Buck Caddis. Caddisflies can grow fairly large, so larger patterns can also be fished with confidence. Large flies reach a length of 30mm, though most caddisflies you'll encounter have a body length of 12-18mm. The caddisfly lives relatively long (about five months) from May to September. Adult caddisflies are taken by trout, grayling, and other predators right after emerging, while their wings dry, and again when they return to the surface to lay eggs. During egg-laying, sedges skitter across the water's surface. This behavior is easy to imitate, and sedges are probably the only dry flies for which drag can actually work in your favor to trigger a take from salmonids.
