Bloody Butcher

The Butcher traces back to 1835, when John Jewhurst of Tunbridge Wells tied a pattern for the butcher Mr. Moon, initially known as "Moon's Fly". In 1838 the well-known fly tyer and author William Blacker gave it the name Butcher - the red representing blood, the silver body a blade, and the blue wing a butcher's apron. The Bloody Butcher is a later development with a bolder, more pronounced red.

The Bloody Butcher is classically fished in the middle or on the point of a wet-fly cast, on both rivers and lochs. Its strong red-violet-silver contrast creates powerful triggers underwater, making it a proven choice for trout and grayling under changing light conditions.
